07/25/2001 Entry: "I'm back"

Just got back from Winnipeg this afternoon, eager to get back my place, check my email, and catch up with what happening. Too bad my DSL connection sucks and is going slower than 56K modem. I haven't even been able to get my email with Outlook because the connection is such crap... after 4+ tries of using telnet, I'm finally able to check it. (Update: it's better now. Happy me)

As for my trip to Manitoba (I don't call it a vacation), I guess it went as well as could be expected. We made a lot of progress in the two days that Tim and I were there. We filled 2 1/2 dumpsters, 3 truck loads of wood for burning (3-ton truck), and 1 1/2 loads of stuff for MCC reuseit (moving truck). There was still plenty of stuff in the house when we left, but most of the big stuff was gone, and the new condo was full by anyones standards except my grandma's. It's hard to understand the mind of someone who is addicted to keeping things. Besides there not being enough room in the new condo, why would you want to keep home canned food from the 1970's and enough sweaters to pack full a 7+ft. cabinet? Or why would you wash, keep, and store toothpaste caps? Why would you want to store napkins in the bathtub, and the canned food around the toilet since the 12 cubic foot freezer and second bedroom are full? And although some of these things can be great to joke about (you have to inorder to servive the move), it is actually pretty sad how warped her sense of reality is, that she believes she needs to keep everything. On a positive note, it does inspire everyone else not to be packrats, and to get rid of things they do not need.
